The RML-Borg The RML-Borg is a modified version of the Ben-Borg based off of Keldon Jones' improved version as included in 2.8.3h, designed to be used with Angband 2.8.3h or 2.8.3. It incorporates several major improvements and many minor ones. It tends to do fairly well once it reaches level 10 or so, and is generally much better at staying alive in the earlygame, although it still tends to die young as a mage. The RML-Borg was written by Ross Morgan-Linial . You're free to modify, compile, distribute, blah blah blah. Major improvements: The way the Borg attempts to wield the best possible equipment has been redone. The Borg now considers items in the home as well as items in inventory and equipment. This allows the Borg to effectively store equipment items in the home for later use. In combination with the above, the code that controls what the Borg decides to store in the home has been extensively redone. The Borg now tries to store equipment items that may be useful in the future, especially ones that provide a needed resistance or ability in several different slots. This way, if the Borg finds a really neat item, but needs the item currently in that slot for a resistance, he can swap in an item from the home that provides the resistance in another slot. The Borg now also handles random artifacts without overt cheating. Instead of stealing the powers of artifacts from the game, it tries to use scrolls of *identify* on random artifacts. Identified artifacts are inscribed with a special inscription that tells the Borg it knows about the artifact. It then steals information from the game about these artifacts only. It also tries to stockpile scrolls of *identify*, but only if random artifacts are on. Minor improvements: A large number of changes have been made to help the Borg in the early game. It now puts a high value on getting AC up to at least 12, to avoid nasty deaths from kobolds and the like. It also knows to buy torches if there is no lantern in the general store. Some changes have been made to make the Borg more cautious about breeders. In particular, the Borg will no longer teleport them away if it can avoid it. The Borg now tries to collect several abilities that are important but that warriors normally lack, such as teleport away. It now recognizes the difference between 'STR:' and 'STR!'. It no longer leaves large numbers of items behind in certain situations after clearing a pit or vault. It now tries to learn the various "resist foo" spells. It now buys and sells ammunition in lots of 5 in some circumstances. It now knows that ego-ammo is often better than normal ammo. It also knows how to activate Cubragol. However, it will no longer enchant ammo as high as it used to, because this wasted to much time and/or money. It no longer tries to walk down to a possibly great depth because it is too scared to recall. Instead, it recalls and then power-ascends until it is happy. If there no recall is available, it now dives much faster when trying to reach a deep depth. It no longer uses "word of recall" to escape a fight, which usually resulted in being yanked upwards right when the enemies were dead and the Borg was going to collect the loot. If it really wants to get away, it will first teleport and then recall. Things which don't really work, or need improvement: Setting a nonzero delay in the Angband options now slows down the Borg. The Borg can temporarily wield an item that provides an ability useful in the short term, such as resist chaos when facing chaos hounds, even if that item is not generally better.
