Scenery for FS2000 Tacoma Narrows Airport (TIW), Tacoma, Washington Introduction: Washington State's Tacoma Narrows Airport is a favorite destination for pilots from the entire Puget Sound Region. Located 15 NM SW from Seattle, and 22 NM NE from Olympia, this airport provides full services for both jet and piston powered aircraft in the shadow of the famous Tacoma Narrows suspension bridge. With a 5000-foot runway and US Customs service, TIW is an ideal location to use as a port of entry to the US. All structures in this scenery are photorealistic. The ground polygon is made from the USGS doqq aerial photograph. The airport was designed using ASDver2.1. The macros were made with Abacus FSDS. The project: The best part about scenery design is the people I've met. While I was still finishing Thun Field, I received a message from Clint Watson, a pilot flying out of Tacoma Narrows. He offered to take photos, and "away we go". I had always hoped to do Tacoma, here was my chance. What's New from previous projects? If you've downloaded some of my other airports, you've seen the basic techniques I've used, but I do try to stretch my skills and learn new things with each project. That's what makes it fun for me. The most significant new thing I've learned is a new way to do trees, with help from my good friend Richard Goldstein. THANKS RICHARD. You may remember that Richard and I teamed up on Elma Municipal project, which began a wonderful sharing of techniques. I probably don't have to tell anyone, but if you haven't seen Richard's work, you're missing one of the true artists in scenery design. Check out his past work by searching on any main library site, and check out his latest work at www.georender.com. Aircraft: Another long time design friend is James Bond. James lives on Whidbey Island in Washington, and wrote me recently to show me some static airplane macros he's been working on. I asked if he'd consider these being the statics at Tacoma, he said yes...and so we all get to enjoy his work! Congrats James, the planes look great. As his work is conversions using m98tobgl, let us take a moment to thank the original authors for the planes themselves: Howard (Mulligan).........Jerry Arzdorf Helo.B 212....................Dean Baunton Cessna 210....................Maradega Pierre Cherokee amphib...........Eric Johnson C-172,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Chris Lampard Beaver............................Bob Wening And of course, M98toBGL by Trevor De Stigter Installation: I recommend installing this scenery into a folder remote from your main fs2000 scenery directory. Name the folder anything you like and make a subdirectory named "scenery", another named "texture". Extract the contents of scenery.zip into your scenery subdirectory. Extract the contents of the texture.zip file into your texture subdirectory. Start FS2000 and "add" the new scenery in the library under the world|library pull down menu in fs2000. No Exclude Switch Needed! The exclude is supplied as part of the bgl files. Thanks and Appreciation: Thanks to Clint Watson, my photographer on this project. It's been fun working with you! Ken Meier, thanks AGAIN for beta testing and general morale boosts Special thanks to James Bond, another of my local Washington simming friends, beta tester, aircraft designer and scenery designer. Special thanks to Ken Nelson. Ken is another Washington State resident and he and I met recently and exchanged ideas, what a kick. Ken is currently feeling frustration over payware becoming more prevalent in flight sim design. I dedicate Tacoma Narrows airport to you...Long Live Freeware! Keep the faith, "bro". And many thanks to the tool makers: Manfred Moldenhauer - SCASM Peter Jacobsen - ASD Louis Sinclair - FSDS Martin Wright - BMP2000 Finally some STUFF: This scenery is freeware and is copyrighted. You may not include this scenery in any pay-ware in any form, no matter what, no way, no how...without written consent from both me AND KEN NELSON (which ain't likely!). Of course, you use this freeware with no guarantees, or warrantees of any kind. Its been tested and will undoubtedly work great, but if it were to cause a problem for you, you have only my sympathy. If you'd like to upload this to any other sites, that's fine, just include this file completely and let me know, it's fun to follow where it's uploaded.
