Aeropesca began operations in 1960, originally carring fish and other cargo with a number of C-46s purchased from Aloha Airlines. In 1971 it acquired Viscounts from Aloha, and began a scheduled passenger service in southern Colombia. Cities served were Popayan, Pasto, Medellin, Cucuta, Barranquilla and Cali. Progress was steady during the 1970s with more Viscounts added.

In late 1982 it leased its first two DC9-15s, and since it had long given up flying fish, it changed its name in 1983 to Intercontinental de Aviacion.

Today Intercontinental is a major domestic airline in Colombia with a fleet of 13 DC-9s and a single Viscount (last operational in Colombia) for ad hoc charter.

The Hk-812 Curtiss C-46 is still present at Bogotà International Airport in rather poor condition, painted with Intercontinental livery.
