DESCRIPTION Lineas Aereas Urraca "La Urraca" was a small well known company within Colombia during it's almost 25 years of operations. It was founded in 1955 by the Henao Jaramillo brothers in Villavalencio. It intially operated DC-3s wich were its main equipment until 1970. In that year La Urraca bought three HP Heralds from Autair England. Three Viscounts were also leased in November 1971. With these aircraft La Urraca entered the passenger business more seriously. However it also entered financial problems, and a number of accidents of one sort or another. The original owners backed out and the company was reorganized. New equipment in the shape of BN Islanders and C-46s were introduced and kept the airline going until 1979 when it ceased operations. During the 1975 La Urraca painted its aircraft in different, bright colours like this HK-1175 DC-3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS My thanks go to John Kelley who designed the original aircraft.
