The General Dynamics F-16 fighter, is presented in the colors of the 
Pakistan Air Force by A.S. Durrani.

This PAF F-16 (registration no. 86725), flown by Squadron Leader Ather, 
engaged and shot down a Soviet SU-25 violating Pakistani air space, on 
the night of August 4, 1988. SU-25 pilot Colonel Ruskoi Alexander 
Vladimirovich ejected but was captured on the ground. Colonel 
Vladimirovich was the inspector of SU-25's deployed in Afghanistan. He 
was handed over to the Soviet Union by Pakistan on August 16, 1988. In
1991, Colonel Vladmiriovich became the Vice President of Russia.

The F-16 multirole fighters were first acquired by Pakistan Air Force 
in January 1983. The PAF F-16's are powered by F-100 PW-200 engine and
equipped with ALR 69 Radar Warning Receiver and other advanced avionic
systems.

More F-16's were purchased (and all paid for) by Pakistan, but their 
delivery was blocked when the United States suspected Pakistan of 
developing nuclear weapons.
