wwis1.zip Western Wisconsin Scenery (formerly Central Wisconsin Scenery) For MS Flight Simulator 6 & FS98 Note: Not tested on FS5.1 (but it probably will work) By John Voznak - jvoznak@concentric.net or jvoznak@raex.com 09/29/98 Version 1 notes: This version supersedes wwis1b1 & wwis1b2. The night lighting effects, antennas, mountains and other scnery are now complete. This version has a section bulldozed out for Steve Gonwa's Eastern Wisconsin Scenery. I hope to make our two areas fully compatible (see link from my webpage). I have also increased the area covered by my exclude files to the east so as to knock out the extra roads, rivers and lakes from FS98. This does not take them all out yet. More improvements in that area in releases to come... For some dynamic scenery for this area, download WWISDYN1.ZIP!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This scenery was designed using Airport & Scenery Designer from Abacus. This scenery is FREEWARE, so I am not charging for it and you should not charge for it either... FS98 users who have installed the converter/patch are in for a treat... the converter/patch increases the scenery buffer from 256k to 512k. This solves a lot of problems I kept running into with disappearing objects around the Sparta - Tomah area. I highly recommend FS98 with the converter/patch installed!!! There are now a total of 67 airports (13 new) included with this version. Old airports: Adams, Amery, Black River Falls, Baraboo - Wis. Dells, Bong Field, Boyceville, Burnett County, Cable Union, Chetek, Cornell, Cumberland, Durand, Eagle River, Eau Claire, Grantsburg, Hayward, Kennedy Memorial, La Crosse, Lakeland Lee Memorial, Land O' Lakes, Madeline Island, Manitowish Waters, Marshfield,Medford, Merrill, Menomonie, Mosinee (Central Wisconsin Airport), Necedah, Neillsville, New Lisbon - Mauston, New Richmond, Osceola, Park Falls, Portage, Prentice, Price County, Reedsburg, Red Wing, Rhinelander, Rice Lake, River Falls, Rusk County, Shell Lake, Solon Springs,Sparta - Fort McCoy, Stevens Point, Tomah, Tomahawk, Viroqua, Volk Field, Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids, Wautoma and Winona (MN). New Airports: Blackhawk, Boscobel, Dane Co. Truax Field, Iowa County, Lancaster, Monroe, Morey, Platteville, Prarie Du Chien, Richland Center, Sauk-Praire, Tri-County Regional, and Waunakee. There is an elevation problem in the Duluth-Superior area. The Duluth Intl. airport (FS98 default) is at a higher altitude compared to the Superior Airport and the distance between them is not that great. This causes the Duluth Intl. to float until you get very close to it - depending where your aircraft is located. I don't know if this can be fixed... This scenery is very processor intensive. I recommend you have a Pentium 233MMX or greater and a good graphics card for best results. ======================================================================= Files included in wwis1.zip: wwis1.txt wwis_1.bgl wwis_2.bgl wwis_3a.bgl wwis_3b.bgl wwis_3c.bgl wwis_4.bgl wwis_5_01.bgl through wwis_5_37.bgl aforce.r8 aptbase.r8 brick0.r8 brick1.r8 brick2.r8 cessna.r8 cessnabr.r8 cessnagr.r8 cessnard.r8 door0.r8 door1.r8 door5.r8 L-858R-N.r8 L-858R.r8 L-858Y-N.r8 L-858Y.r8 nw.r8 parkglot.r8 roof0.r8 roof1.r8 roof2.r8 roof3.r8 side7.r8 united.r8 window.r8 wood0.r8 wood1.r8 wood3.r8 airpt001.oav airpt002.oav airpt003.oav airpt004.oav airpt0a4.oav airpt0p4.oav airpt0w4.oav airpt005.oav airpt006.oav airpt007.oav airpt008.oav heliprt.pat vod00.pat vod01.pat vod02.pat vod03.pat ============ INSTALLATION: 1. FOR FSFW95 (FS6) USERS: I have my scenery files set up in the following directories: C:\Program Files\FS Scenery\Wis\ (This is where you put the wwis1.txt file) C:\Program Files\FS Scenery\Wis\Scenery\ (This is where you put all of the .bgl files listed above) C:\Program Files\FS Scenery\Wis\Texture\ (This is where you put the .r8, .oav, and .pat files listed above) An alternative file structure is this: ...\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\Scenery\Wis\ (This is where you put the wwis1b1.txt file) ...\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\Scenery\Wis\Scenery\ (This is where you put all of the .bgl files listed above) ...\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\Scenery\Wis\Texture\ (This is where you put the .r8, .oav, and .pat files listed above) To set up the scenery area, start FS6 and choose "World" from the menu. Then choose "Scenery Library" and click "OK" in the dialog box. Next, choose "Files" and then "Add" in the dialog box. You will have to type in the Scenery Area Path to the *.bgl files like: (...\Microsoft Games\ Flight Simulator\Scenery\Wis\Scenery\). Then type in the Scenery Area Title (Western Wisconsin). Next set the Scenery Area Type to "Regional" and Scenery Area Layer to whatever you like (I use 1). Choose "OK" three times and you're all set!!! 2. For FS98 USERS: Same as above. RECOMMENDED: I have included texture files (.oav and .pat) that I use in this scenery. I would highly recommend however, that you download and install the texture files from vodtex27.zip and txtur202.zip which can be found at: ftp://ftp.iup.edu/flight-sim/uploads/ ======================================================================= HINTS & TIPS: If you have a fast computer (P233MMX or faster), set your scenery density to "DENSE". This version includes roads, rivers, lakes and cities for the entire state of Wisconsin. Note that I did not redo the texture tiles to the east of the WWIS1 area, so in some areas, like in the southeastern part of the state, the stock FS mountains will cover some of these features... If you are using the The L&R Southern Minnesota Scenery by Louis Sinclair, you will find that we currently have a few conflicts along the Mississippi River. Some of these have been resolved in this release, but not all. Hopefully they will all be resolved in future releases... BTW, make sure that WWIS1 scenery is set to a lower Scenery Layer number than the Minnesota scenery. I now have a web page for this scenery - the URL is: http://www.concentric.net/~jvoznak (it may move to http://web.raex.com/~jvoznak) Note: You can email me with questions or observations at: jvoznak@concentric.net or jvoznak@raex.com Once again - this scenery is FREEWARE!!! Disclaimer: I have developed this scenery on my PC and have had no adverse problems. This does not mean that you won't. Use this scenery at your own risk. Copyright 1997,1998, all rights reserved.
