Double-Byte Resources for Adobe PDF IFilter 4.1 lets you search Acrobat 4.0 files and double-byte text. IFilter is a Microsoft specification for filtering text; the specification is available from Microsoft's Web site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/psdk/indexsrv/ixrefint_9sfm.htm. An IFilter is a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file that is called by a client to extract words for a given file format. Adobe PDF IFilter consists of code that interprets the PDF file format along with code that provides the appropriate interface to callers like Index Server. Adobe PDF IFilter is identified when a caller checks the Windows NT Registry for a DLL file that can handle files with the .pdf extension. Adobe PDF IFilter returns text to the caller; the text is then added to the catalog or index being built.
