This version of Adobe PDF IFilter adds support for Acrobat 4.0 PDF files and double-byte text. An IFilter is a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file that is called by a client to extract text for a given file format. Adobe PDF IFilter consists of code that recognizes PDF along with code that provides the appropriate client interface. Adobe PDF IFilter is called when a client looks in the Windows NT Registry for a DLL file that recognizes files with the .pdf extension. Adobe PDF IFilter returns text to the client, which then adds the text to the catalog or index being built. IFilter is a Microsoft specification for filtering text. The specification is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/psdk/indexsrv/ixrefint_9sfm.htm.
