DESCRIPTION
The Equation Patcher for FrameMaker 5.1x for SGI/IRIX 6.x prevents 
FrameMaker from crashing after you open or edit a document that contains 
an equation.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Adobe FrameMaker 5.1, FrameViewer 5.1, FrameMaker 5.1.1, or FrameViewer 
5.1.1 for SGI running under IRIX 6.x. You must run the patcher on an
IRIX 5.x or 6.x system.

HANDLING NOTES
After downloading a ".tar.gz" file on a Unix system, use "gzcat 
[myfile.tar.gz] | tar xvf -" to access the file's contents, where 
[myfile.tar.gz] is the file you want to decompress.

After downloading a ".tar.Z" file on a Unix system, use "uncompress -c [m
yfile.tar.Z] | tar xvf -" to access the file's contents, where 
[myfile.tar.Z] is the file you want to decompress.

INSTALLATION NOTES
To run the Equation Patcher:
1.  Copy the fmr5.p01, fmr5.p01.patcher, and fmr5.p02.patcher files 
into the $FMHOME directory (the directory in which FrameMaker is 
installed). 
2.  Change to the $FMHOME directory and run the patcher script 
(fmr5.p01). For example, if FrameMaker is installed in the /usr/FMr5 
directory, type the following commands to run the patcher script:

cd /usr/FMr5
./fmr5.p01

NOTE: You must have write permissions to $FMHOME (i.e., if FrameMaker was 
installed as the root user, you will have to be the root user to run the 
patcher script).

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The fmr5.p01.patcher and fmr5.p02.patcher files are SGI executable 
binaries. You can run Equation Patcher if you are unsure whether the 
executable has been patched. If the executable has already been patched, 
the patcher reports that ./bin/sgi.irix.mips/maker5X.exe has changed.

The patcher script does the following:
-  Verifies permissions and whether the patch applies. If there is a 
problem that would prevent a successful patch, the script exits.
-  Checks that ./bin/sgi.irix.mips/maker5X.exe has the equations 
problem.
-  Copies the original FrameMaker binary 
./bin/sgi.irix.mips/maker5X.exe to ./bin/sgi.irix.mips/maker5X.exe.bak, 
unless a file of that name already exists. Copying the FrameMaker binary 
requires about 10 MB of available disk space.
-  Fixes the equations problem in the 
./bin/sgi.irix.mips/maker5X.exe executable.

The sum of the unpatched executable installed on an IRIX 5.x or 6.x system 
is as follows:

for SGI were tested only with IRIX 5.2 and 5.3.
