AdobePS provides several features not found in the standard PSPrinter 8.x and Apple LaserWriter 8.x printer drivers, such as watermark printing, additional n-up options, and greater support for many popular applications. This version of the Adobe PostScript printer driver is only for owners of Japanese versions of Macintosh computers who print to devices that include Adobe PostScript. The following feature is new with AdobePS 8.5.2: - Support for the Japanese version of the Adobe PDF Printer Driver Plug-in The following problems are resolved with AdobePS 8.5.2: - A PostScript error no longer occurs when printing TrueType fonts. - The computer does not freeze or hang as Adobe Acrobat Distiller starts for the first time after AdobePS and the PDF Printer Driver Plug-in are installed. The following features were new with AdobePS 8.5.1 and are also included in version 8.5.2: - Single-pass foreground printing: AdobePS provides single-pass foreground printing and two-pass background printing. You can select that option within your application. Single-pass foreground printing allows AdobePS to print large documents or graphic-intensive documents directly to your printer, without interim storage on your hard disk. - Change printers from the Print dialog box: AdobePS enables you to change printers within the Print dialog box rather than through the Chooser. - Enhanced user interface: AdobePS provides an enhanced user interface that simplifies the print-setup and printing processes. - Support for PostScript 3: AdobePS supports PostScript 3 devices, as well as Levels 1 and 2 products. It is the first Macintosh printer driver to support Adobe PostScript 3 features. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS -- Apple System 7.1 or later -- 4 MB or more of RAM -- 2 MB of available hard disk space -- Apple ColorSync 2.0.1, if using the AdobePS ColorSync features -- Any printer that includes Adobe PostScript -- A PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file for your printer AdobePS does not run on Macintosh 128K, 512K, and 512Ke computers. HANDLING NOTES After downloading a ".sit.hqx" or ".sit" file on a Macintosh, use StuffIt Deluxe(R) or StuffIt Expander(R) by Aladdin Systems, Inc. (408-761-6200, http://www.aladdinsys.com/) to access the file's contents. StuffIt Expander is available as a freeware product. INSTALLATION NOTES Installation of this driver requires a PostScript Printer Description (PPD) file for your printer. If you need a PPD file, do one or more of the following: A. Most PostScript printers include a floppy disk that contains the PPD file for the printer. If you cannot find this disk, contact your printer manufacturer for a replacement. B. Visit your printer manufacturer's Web site or FTP site to obtain the PPD file. C. Visit Adobe online services such as the Adobe Web site, which may have the PPD file you need. SPECIAL NOTE: Adobe redistributes a number of PPD files for Macintosh and Windows as a courtesy to Adobe customers but does not guarantee to have the PPD file you need. D. If you work with a service bureau or print shop to create professionally printed documents, they may have the PPD file you need. Your printer manufacturer is ultimately responsible for providing you with a PPD file. Neither Adobe nor your service provider is obligated to provide you with a PPD file. To install AdobePS 8.5.2: 1. Ensure that your computer is running Mac OS 7.1 or later. 2. Have your PPD file ready, either on a floppy disk or on your hard drive before you install AdobePS. 3. Quit all applications. 4. Double-click the AdobePS Installer icon. 6. Follow the on-screen instructions. ADDITIONAL NOTES Installing this version of AdobePS will overwrite any previous version of AdobePS, but will not affect other printer drivers (e.g., LaserWriter, FaxPrinter, PSPrinter). AdobePS 8.5.2J replaces PSPrinter 8.3.2J and AdobePS 8.5.1J. It does not replace FaxPrinter 8.2.1F, the driver for PostScript fax printers. This printer driver was formerly known as Adobe PSPrinter. This printer driver is not for owners of non-PostScript printers. To determine if your printer includes PostScript, check your printer's documentation or contact your printer's manufacturer. PPD files are stored in the Printer Descriptions folder in the Extensions folder in the System Folder. This driver supports PostScript Level 1, PostScript Level 2, and Adobe PostScript 3 devices.
