- The Erlang FAQ.
- Frequently Asked Questions about all aspects of Erlang.
The erlang.org mailing lists are
(links
to
searchable archives).
- erlang-questions
- The main Erlang/OTP discussion list. This list is mirrored by the (searchable)
Google Group
Erlang Programming.
- erlang-patches
- Post patches to Erlang/OTP here and get feedback from
the developers and others.
- erlang-bugs
- Report bugs in Erlang/OTP here. Give so much information that
the bug can be reproduced, and tell exactly which release and patchlevel
it applies to. If you even have a patch, send it to erlang-patches
instead.
- erlang-announce
- If you only want to be notified of new releases, subscribe to this list.
There is no need to subscribe to this list if you already subscribe to
erlang-questions, announcements are sent to both lists.
You can not post to this list - only moderators can.
- eeps
- Discussions regarding specific EEPs (Erlang Extension Proposals).
See Enhancements
The trapexit.org forums.
If you prefer reading a forum,
trapexit.org
mirrors all our mailing lists, plus they have other
forums of their own.
The mailing lists are currently
ezmlm/idx mailing lists.
They are old-fashioned email-only no-webinterface mailinglists.
You give commands to the list management program through
the destination address. Both subject and body may be empty.
- Posting
- To be able to post on one of these lists, you have
to be subscribed to it. Make sure you post from
the same address you subscribed from, where same address
is quite pecky - it has to be the Envelope Address
aka Return Path that is the same. There are also
size limitations (currently max 128K) and restrictions
on which strange MIME content types that are accepted.
- Subscribing
- Mail to <LIST-subscribe (at) erlang (dot) org>,
where LIST is the name of the list.
- You get a Confirmation Mail. Reply to it.
- You get a Welcome Mail. You are now subscribed.
Both in the Confirmation and the Welcome Mail there
are instructions on how to handle your subscription,
e.g how to get help:
- Getting help
- Mail to <LIST-help (at) erlang (dot) org>,
and you will get a helpful mail, among other things
(but you already knew this since it was in both the
Confirmation and the Welcome Mail) telling you how
to unsubscribe:
- Unsubscribing
- Mail to <LIST-unsubscribe (at) erlang (dot) org>.
- You get a Confirmation Mail. Reply to it.
You are now unsubscribed.
- Commands in the subject
- If your mail client does not like long and strange
destination addresses you can write the command
(the long and strange destination address) in the subject
instead and send the mail to
<LIST-request (at) erlang (dot) org>
instead.
- Digest subscribtion
- A digest subscriber gets a digest containing new posts
every day, approximately. Subscribe just like above
but for the fake list LIST-digest instead.
You can be subscribed to both the regular list and to
the digest list, but why on earth?
- No-mail subscribtion
- If you read the list by other means and do not want
to get mail from the list, or need an alternate address
to post from (since only subscribers can post);
subscribe just like above but to the fake list LIST-allow
instead, i.e send mail to
<LIST-allow-subscribe (at) erlang (dot) org>.
As you perhaps might suspect you will not get the Welcome Mail. I regard it as a bug.
The Confirmation Mail is a bit confusing. To unsubscribe
this no-mail subscribtion you will have to mail to
<LIST-allow-unsubscribe (at) erlang (dot) org>
as expected, not as it says in the Confirmation Mail.
- Contacting the list owner
- Mail to <LIST-owner (at) erlang (dot) org>,
and the mail goes to the (human) owner of LIST.
