PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE FILE AS IT WILL TELL YOU WHICH ZIP YOU SHOULD DLOAD. This is my Discworld modification to Zangband. I have incuded the executable (which is Zangband 2.4.0 by Robert Allen Koeneke, James E. wilson and Robert Ruehlmann) in this update because the current Zangband version is so different from the version i modified. However you can try to use my files (all in the 'edit' and 'file' files in the Libs files) with newer versions but i can't guarantee they will work. I have not incuded any tiles (customised graphics) because they no longer really aplly and would only confuse players and make for a needlessly longer download. Much of the poor spelling you will find is intended and is meant to be 'ye olde englishe spellinge style' like in the books or are in fact puns. The inclusive game Discband4.zip is a windows binary executable that combines the executable and my modified files. FOR THOSE USING PLATFORMS OTHER THEN WINDOWS (or who wish to use a different version of Zangband or who already have a version of Zangband on their HD) I HAVE ALSO PROVIDED THE LIBS AND FILE FILES IN THE DISCBAND4LIBS.ZIP FILE ALONG WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR THEIR IMPLEMENTATION as a seperate download . keep in mind that these files were made with Zangband 2.4.0 and may not work with other versions (but what the heck, give it a shot anyway) Zangband and later versions of Zangband can be found at http://thangorodrim.angband.org/ as well as many other variants that you will enjoy as well. http://thangorodrim.angband.org/ and The Roguelike news site http://www.skoardy.demon.co.uk/rlnews/index.html have info on how you too can make a roguelike variant of your very own. It is basically a collection of "in" jokes for both fans of the Discworld series of books and players of ascii adventures. If you don't know about Discworld then I suggest you go to a bookstore, any bookstore, anywhere in the world, and buy as many of these books as you can. Terry Pratchett has been called the dickens of the 20th century (the mail on sunday) and his work has been compared (quite favorably) to Oz, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Alice in Wonderland. My favorites are Moving Pictures, Small Gods, Feet of Clay, Interesting Times, Hogfather, The Last Continent and The Fifth Elephant. I do recomend that you have read at least several of the books cause a fair amount of the humor in this game will be missed otherwise. Types of changes: 1)Players can now cast spells from the Bumper Fun Grimoir and the Dictionary of Eyewatering Words, drink Winkles olde peculiar, munch on banged grains and wield dwarven battle bread. 2)Players can adventure alongside Archchancellor Ridcully and Cohen the Barbarian against, Octorine dragons, Old man trouble, and their ilk. Death doesn't apear (as he would either be an enemy or an ally and he doesnt usualy take sides) but he has misplaced both his scythe and his sword... 3)Almost all the uniques speak apropriate lines. 4)new ego items such as weapons of Sourcery As in the books a fair amount of humor is in the "footnotes" so when playing remember to press * to highlight a monster to see its description. I'd like to thank Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs who wrote the Discworld Companion which proved to be an invaluable recource for this project. I should also like to thank Greg Woolage for telling me where to post my work. There might have been someone else who attempted to assist me but I accedentaly deleted the email. So thank you to that unknown soldier. Id like to thank Igenlode for suggesting some dialogue. comments can be sent to kleitman@aol.com
